In the sci-fi film Redux Redux (2025), Billie, the leader of a fuel core smuggling operation, offers Irene and Mia unlimited rides using their own parallel universe travel machine in exchange for Irene's parallel universe travel machine, whose fuel core is burned out.
What puts the fuel core smugglers in a position to make such an offer? Do they operate across multiple universes? Or does the offer apply only to travel from that one specific universe?
This question was also posed to Matthew McManus, co-writer and co-director of Redux Redux, in a February 2026 Reddit /r/movies AMA (Ask Me Anything) post, where he confirmed that Billie and Travis belong to a huge smuggler network active across multiple universes. They represent the standard (and highly risky) method for multiverse travel.
Fun question! That’s how we see it. There’s a huge smuggler network that’s active in multiple universes. Billy and Travis are part of a much larger clandestine group. They’re the usual way that folks travel through the multiverse and they communicate through cryptic codes. It’s super dangerous and travellers are usually incredibly vulnerable. What makes Irene special is that she has her own machine, which is pretty rare.
