What are the Dances with Wolves references in Rick and Morty S09E05?

In Rick and Morty Season 9 Episode 5, "Jer Bud," Morty is captured by the Mancors and brought before their leader, Ascot. Upon meeting her, Morty makes a reference to the 1990 Kevin Costner film Dances with Wolves:

Morty: Oh. Cool. You have a leader already. You don't need me as your Dances for Wolves. With Wolves? I haven't seen it.

Ascot: Ha! That's sidelines talk. You clearly don't understand what we're up against.

Like Morty, I haven't seen Dances with Wolves. What is the context behind this reference? What about this scene, or the episode in general, references the film?

Top Answer/Comment:

You don't need me to use outsider technology and knowledge to support you and ensure your survival.

In other words, Morty says the Mancors don't need him as a white saviour.

It's a little strange, since in the film Dances with Wolves the Sioux actually have a chief, Ten Bears, so Morty's reasoning is incorrect, but he hasn't seen the movie, so it's justifiable. And his basic point is still valid.

Both the film and the episode involves three factions: the dogs, the Mups, and the Mancors (the Union Army, the Pawnee, and the Sioux), who are all at odds with each other.

'Dances for Wolves' could be a tongue-in-cheek remark about how the Mancors used to dance to the whims of their dog overlords.

Snowball's colour could also be significant, but that might be looking into it too hard.
